Ode Masa SMA: Akbar Karpates

Ngga pernah ngobrol sama sekali kayaknya. Obrolan pertama kita yang gue inget kayaknya pas gue masih di Amerika terus dia komen di salah satu foto Instagram gue HAHAHA.

Takdir mempertemukan kita di kelas XII IS 1, and gils if I don't praise takdir for this.

-UGM dapet 6 orang
-FK UGM dapet satu orang! (selamat Ibi!) (pertama dalam sejarah Smansa!)

Siapa yang dapet di SBM ITB? TIMI!!!

Timi yang masih manggil gue pake 'kak' disaat yang lain udah manggil gue Ninis doang...

Dan ini screenshots dari malam SNMPTN… (I know the future me would love to see more screenshots like this) (I'm a sucker for good memories)

Nipeh

Dan itulah malam pengumuman SNMPTN gue. Adek Raras pun menjadi pejuang tulis di SBMPTN. I know she'll make it wherever she wants to go.

Did I tell you already Nadya and I had sleepover for two nights in a row? It's a dream came true!

Jadi malam itu judulnya, YES Indonesia Minnesota 13-14 Get Together :")

Besok paginya, hari pertama NF setelah pengumuman SNMPTN. Untuk pertama kalinya gue dateng sebelum bel HAHAHA. Dateng-dateng duo guru sejarah, kak Saf sama kak Albi udah pasang senyum tiga jari sambil bilang, 'Semangat! Semangat ya!' Haaa aaah :')

Begitu di kelas lagi mau mulai TO.....

Kak Saf: "Iya dong.

Guys, we are awesome and we shall pass this.

Depok in the future

The next Jakarta's satellite city, where skyscrapers erected and flyovers criss crossed. The climate would be super humid and hot, without any tree to filter sun ray. It directly shone and the old, bald Margonda boulevard would reflect it back. Hurt every eyes to see.

The plan was to develop this used-to-be-a-county to be an autonomic city. Backed by a corrupted government, it was a plan made in hell.

Plant trees along Margonda, for Gosh's sake. There used to be big old trees around Sawo street and Kober street -which are vitals for commuters- before they cut them down to enlarge the boulevard. I know it was (partly) due to safety issue, but re-plant afterward please! We have money, tons of them. Stop using it for making useless star fruit decorations around the city. Use it to hire professionals, pay them to think how to organize this city environment-friendly.

You spent billions of rupiah to fix dams in Cimanggis every single year. Do you know how effective they work? Not at all. A five-minute rain could make a two-hour flood. It terrified me every time I came home from school at night and knew I couldn't take the normal route. Because the alternative was to take a route pass old cemeteries and deserted-at-night village.

How could a leader led for two periods and didn't make any significant good impact?

All you did for everyone to see is posing in every darn huge posters in Arief Rahman Hakim-Margonda intersection. All you did that I could remember was making One Day No Rice and One Day No Car which weren't clear where and how are they now. You put a lot of money to campaign those two programs. I mean, One Day No Car? Why don't you build pedestrians so bikers would feel safe biking on the crowded streets? Or take care of the messy angkot system? Find a solution that would make a tangible result, instead of an abstract one.

Congratulations on making this city the second most corrupted city in Indonesia last few years ago. I hope to heart there would be no family legacy in Depok goverment (the last news I heard, his wife wants to be his successor) (Gosh) (Depok, I hope we're not doomed).

Smansa Model United Nations 2015

It has finally happened! The first ever Smansa MUN, initiated and organized by several 12th graders social class!

After months of planning and organizing by the upper committee (not me), Smansa MUN was held on May 1-2, 2015. Until the last week before the event, participants who applied were only 9 students. Then we gave presentations class to class, and in the end we got 28 students applied!

Although it decreased significantly on the real session (which I already predicted).

First day was training day. I gave presentation about introduction to MUN to the whole group. Then they were divided into two groups and went to negotiation post (Nipeh and Bundo), speech post (Nada and Pipit) and then came together again as one group to drafting post (Babot and Astrid).

What amazed me was that the participants were active and courageous even though they didn't have slightest idea what MUN is! (Almost all of them were new to MUN). They were enthusiastic about MUN, and gosh if I didn't feel jolly about it. To me, it felt like I've inspired them about MUN. Regardless of whether they liked it or not. The feeling was almost as high as when I gave six Balinese dance performances and presentations about Indonesia back-to-back at Lakeview Elementary School back on my exchange year. To see awe on those children' eyes, to answer their plain curiousity, and the most joyful thing that day: to see shyness on my brothers' and sister when I introduced myself in front of the gym as their sister and know that they felt proud and delighted to see me performing and presenting. I know Taylor particularly boasted to her friends about me and Jacob told his friends what I told him about Indonesia and Caleb emphasized what I said to the children sat around him. I miss them.

Anyway. Back to MUN.

It was out of my expectation to experience such a thing. Oh, I know I'm so blessed with people around me. I'm beyond thrilled that I found my people and my circle in this new class

Our Secretary General, Fajar
Secretary General and Deputy General for conference management. My partner since the very beginning of our MUN journey, Babot.

Negotiation post. Oh, to see how active and enthusiastic they were!

Speech post. It was this intense.

the end of first day

Second day was the real council. On behalf of Labor Day on the first of May, we set Migrant Worker Rights as the topic under SPECPOL council. I was moderator along with Nipeh as rapporteur and Fajar as director. We were the chair for first and second session. I left early because of an AFS event in Bogor, but it was truly an honor to lead the council. The delegates were just awesome, to say the least.

I think we kinda look alike in this picture. I secretly suspected we were brother and sister before this lifetime.

It was a splendid experience for me. It was full of tension and hope leading to the actual event that resulted in such an amazing MUN experience. Applause to the upper committee, you guys are awesome. I'm so glad I invested my time and energy in this kind of activities and all the activities I have and have been joining. I know I would rather spend my money on experiences like this.

I hope this event inspired Smansa students to join MUN. Good luck to all delegates for your future endeavors. Hope the first Smansa MUN shall not be the last.
